general assembly of all students on 12/01/2021: "We are taking back the university! - underfunding and counteract isolation"

Dear students of Philipps-Uni,

the executive committee of the student parliament invites you all to the general assembly of all students. A generall assembly of all students is a medium for information, the exchange and formation of opinions (statutes of the student body, article 7 https://www.asta-marburg.de/fileadmin/Gremien/StuPa/Satzungen_und_Ordnungen/Satzung_der_StudentInnenschaft.pdf

Its resolutions should be an orientation for all other committees of the university. At the general assembly we want to give an overview of the effects of the structural underfunding of our university and discuss how this affects our student situation and the quality of teaching, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. The joint exchange is expected to result in an action plan that will be indicative for our options for action.

The plenary session "We take back our university - counteracting underfunding and isolation" will take place online on 01.12.2021 at 18:15. You can find the Big Blue Button Room at https://uni-marburg.de/rF7y.

Tentative agenda:

  1. welcome and approval of the agenda
  2. giving of the rules of procedure
  3. responsibilities
  4. current financial situation of the Philipps-Universität Marburg
  5. student situation in times of structural underfunding and pandemic
  6. miscellaneous

At:

https://www.asta-marburg.de/gremien/studentinnenparlament/ you will find a "How-to-VV Flyer". All important information about the course of the meeting can also be found there. It is especially important for the course of the plenary session that you submit motions that can be voted on. The motions have to be submitted to the StuPa board until the 30th November 2021. Student Parliament elections 2019

We have examined this year's results of the Student Parliament election and took a few reasons:

  1. We were able to increase our share from 12,50% to 14,05%. Moreover, for the first time in history we have a representative in the senate of the University of Marburg. There are 17 senators of which three are students. We will give left policies a voice even though the power share is favoring to a huge degree the group of the professors.
  2. The general hype of the green party affects the elections on the universities as well, even though they are not able to fill all the seats they acquired. Additionally, with the loss of the Mensaristischen Einheitspartei (MEP) many voters needed to vote differently. Unfortunately the dedication for climate protection seems to be rather scarce as can be seen in the support for the Fridays for Future - Marburg. This election could a good reason to change that.
  3. The liberal university group (LHG; FDP-Hochschulgruppe) was able to mobilize many conservative voters with their populist campaign, attacking different student bodies. On the other hand this might have happened at the cost of the RCDS.
  4. Latter failed to gain support with its antifeminist rhetoric.
  5. The Jusos find themselves in a steady downtrend. This however is not surprising considering the situation of the SPD.

In conclusion we hope that the results, which strengthen the current AStA coalition of CampusGrün Marburg - Grüne Hochschulgruppe, Fachschaftspower Uni Marburg, Juso-Hochschulgruppe Marburg and SDS.dielinke (from 26 to 32 seats), will help us to campaign for emancipating politics and a solidary and open-minded University Marburg.

Stunned by the election? – For a society of the many!

Stunned by the election?
Angry about right-wing populists in german parliament?
Pissed off with right-wing hate speech?
We won’t accept these conditions any longer.
Stand up for your rights, power to the people!

Demo: Thursday, 05/10/17 at 5pm at the main station, Marburg

The AfD getting into parliament reveals another low of the society-wide, reactionary, völkisch development that has been happening for years.

Basic rights – as the right of assembly – are being more and more clearly restrained, e.g. at recent protests, and those who choose to protest have to expect repressions.

Once again, discriminatory opinions are officially allowed to exist in the daily life in Germany. Especially the way the NSU complex was dealt with as well as the attacks on refugees, the uncountable number of people who died at European borders and the cutting back on refugees’ rights displays the racism and anti-muslim racism prevalent in Germany.

Moreover, debates about pregnancy terminations and sexualized violence highlight the severity of anti-feminist demands. Lesbians, gays and trans people also have to fear a backlash of traditional ideas of marriage, gender and families, which could lead to the withdrawal of the still incomplete rights they fought for, e.g. in regard to marriage, adoption and ID cards. The demand to end forced operations on intersex people recedes even more into the distance.
